Erika Farkas is a self-taught visual artist living in Ottawa, Canada. Although Erika never had any formal art training, artistic creativity has been always a big part of her life.
She started exhibiting her figurative pencil drawings in 2013, and has won several awards with her realistic portraits in juried local and international art exhibitions in Ottawa and online. Later, she took interest in mixed media and acrylic painting, as well as pastels, because it appealed to her love of colour and gave her unlimited means to stretch the limits of visual expression.
Erika is currently an active member of the following art organizations: Foyer Gallery, Nepean Fine Arts League, Arteast Ottawa, and Pastel Artists Canada. She participates in various juried and unjuried shows and other artistic events in Ottawa and online, and she exhibits throughout the year in selected Ottawa community and commercial galleries. Her works, including a great number of commissioned portraits, can be found in private collections throughout North America and Europe.Visit Erika's Artist Website at erikafarkasart.com
Creating art has become one of the biggest joys of my life. I thrive on that feeling of urgency and excitement that I get when the creative juices start flowing through my brain and urge me to pick up a pencil, a brush, or a pastel stick and just have fun with it. Variety for me is a must, I don't like to limit my works with one style and medium. I work with graphite, charcoal, coloured, and pastel pencils, as well as with soft pastels, acrylic, oil and mixed media. Most of my works are realistic, but I also love creating abstract and surreal pieces.
I feel that I am only at the beginning of my artistic journey. There is so much more that I can try, so many new ways to challenge myself. This journey is worth all the hard work, because for me it is both therapeutic and emotionally fulfilling.Erika Farkas, Artist
